Abstract |
According to the international regulations of emission of environmental pollutants by marine transportation, shaft generators are being installed on small and large vessels. Also, there is additional facility for energy storage such as lithium-ion battery system. Therefore some of operation data of a large container carrier were acquisited and analyzed for designing a scenario of simulation for economical evaluation of a hybrid vessel. On this study, a hybrid system based on a container carrier and LNG carrier was designed including main engine, diesel generator, shaft generator, lithium-ion based energy storage system. The simulation was conducted via NI LabVIEW, and the result of simulation revealed that the virtual vessel with a hybrid system reduced the energy and fuel consumption during the designed period of a year. The result of this study clearly shows a vessel with a hybrid system can reduce the total amount of energy and fuel, still the operational profile of the vessel where the hybrid system will be installed shall be technically analyzed to optimize and maximize the effect of the hybrid system configured with shaft generators, energy storage systems and so on. It is expected this study may help to design and simulate any kind of hybrid system for merchant vessels. |
